A comprehensive review of literature yielded seven references, including one from the 1980s and one clinical practice guideline. There is no recommendation in any of our sources indicating that prophylactic use of gentamicin in our EVD collection tubing reduces the risk of ventriculitis. Furthermore, it is discouraged to prophylactically change the external ventricular device throughout the duration of intracranial pressure (ICP) monitoring and cerebral spinal fluid (CSF) collection due to the risk of secondary contamination.1 pageengAll Rights ReservedBrain--Ventricles--SurgeryCerebrospinal fluidThe Prophylactic Use of Gentamicin in EVDSImage
