Abstract
The purpose of this thesis is to document the author’s creative process of completing and implementing the costume design for Temple University’s 2024 fall production of Massenet’s Opera Cendrillion. The author describes their process of script analysis, compilation of historical research, the creation of conceptual designs and implementation of the final designs. Subjects that are vital to the final product discussed within include, French history, portraiture during the reign of Louis XIV, experimentation in robotics application, modern fashion influences as well as the collaborative nature of theatrical design. Additional documentation includes pertinent workflow documents, process pictures and historical imaging. The author also provides a personal reflection on their growth as a designer throughout their time as a graduate student at Temple University.
