Abstract
This capstone experience was embedded in a pilot early childhood social-emotional learning program called “PREPSS.” PREPSS aimed to provide Tier 1 trauma-informed educational services to students, educators, and home caregivers. Prior iterations of PREPSS determined home caregivers would benefit from increased access to strategies infused within PREPSS. The project included a review of the transmission of intergenerational trauma within the caregiver-child relationship and its impact on roles and routines within the home environment. Purpose: To provide education and advocacy for families through the expansion of PREPSS family programming and access points. The project focused on caregiver education and implementation of trauma-informed principles. Methods: A hybrid approach including videos and family events was utilized with up to 40 home caregivers from 2 early childhood care locations. Findings: This capstone responded to the importance of understanding and addressing the effects of intergenerational trauma to enhance the well-being of the entire family unit.
