dc.description.abstract | This article addresses the significant challenge posed by limited English language proficiency among the growing immigrant population in the United States, hindering effective communication in medical care. The inability to accurately convey symptoms and treatment information can lead to delayed diagnoses, prolonged treatment, increased healthcare costs, and potential complications. While in-person translator services are a common solution, logistical issues and resource constraints often impede their efficiency. The article explores the potential of digital translator services, with a focus on the benefits and limitations of tools like Google Translate. While studies show positive feedback from healthcare teams, concerns arise regarding the accuracy of translations, highlighting specific challenges in medical contexts and between certain language pairs. The need for innovative solutions to enhance the accuracy, affordability, and expediency of digital translation tools is emphasized, especially in the context of community-focused healthcare. The article underscores the pivotal role translation services play in modern medicine and the imperative for ongoing efforts to optimize their efficacy for improved patient care outcomes. | |
