dc.description.abstract | The purpose of this evidence-based practice project is to evaluate the effectiveness of utilizing a Foley catheter bundle to reduce the incidence of CAUTIs in hospitalized patients. There is already a nurse-driven protocol in place at Temple University Hospital for the removal of Foley catheters and a protocol for Foley care and proper maintenance. This bundle would serve as a supplement to the current protocol and add features allowing for additional prompting and documentation of measures designed to reduce the incidence of CAUTIs. Twenty-one studies were subject to full article review and six were selected to be included in the final draft of this project. Two were systemic reviews, three were cohort studies, and one was based on expert opinion and literature review. The studies all supported some form of a bundle or algorithm. The content of each bundle varied from study to study, but an evidence-based bundle could be tailored for future use at Temple University Hospital. | |
