dc.descriptionWhy haven’t sustainable forms of energy become the predominant ways we power our society? As the ramifications of anthropogenic climate change become increasingly apparent, the battle to achieve global sustainability has additionally heated up. In one of the most important sectors to achieving sustainability, renewable energy, the conversation has split into a narrow economics versus environmental. In this presentation Burch proposes that these two sides ignore a critical aspect of the renewable energy debate – ethics. From indigenous communities’ understanding of energy to an application of Timothy Morton’s theory of Hyperobjects, Burch argues that through a reframing of the energy argument one is able to make a stronger case for renewable energy moving forward.
