Abstract
Pressure ulcers are a nurse sensitive indicator and are one of the ways hospitals are evaluated for magnet status. Previous research has linked pressure ulcer knowledge level of nurses to success in pressure ulcer prevention initiatives to decrease incidence and enhance care. The most recent International Pressure Ulcer Prevalence survey reports that in the US, acute care hospitals report that facility acquired pressure ulcers rates have steadily declined from 6.4% in 2006 to 4.6% in 2010 to a low of 2.9% in 2015. (Van Gilder, 2017). Nationally, research has revealed that nurses pressure injury knowledge as measured by a standardized tool are at the “C to C+ level”.
