Abstract
It is estimated that 450,000 medication errors occur annually, leading to costs between $3.5 billion and $29 billion each year for hospitals. More importantly, medication errors are estimated to cause approximately 7,000 preventable deaths in the United States each year (Freeman, Lee-Lehner, & Pesenecker, 2013). The effectiveness of strategies to limit interruptions during medication administration has been evaluated in an effort to promote patient safety. Medication errors remain a serious concern despite the increased attention they have received.
