Abstract
The purpose of this research was to determine whether a relationship exists between performing shoulder dystocia training and positive neonatal management and outcomes during actual incidents. A comprehensive review of five studies that ranged from Levels I-IV in the Hierarchy of Evidence, revealed that organized shoulder dystocia training is directly linked to improved neonatal outcomes and management. Interdisciplinary trainings using highfidelity mannequins and protocols, both pre and postpreparation, lead to an increased use of proper manoeuvres during shoulder dystocia cases, a rise in successful delivery rates, and a substantial decrease in Obstetric Brachial Plexus Injuries (OBPI). The results reveal the importance of trainings for all staff members, and suggest that actions should be taken to implement this evidence into nursing practice as soon as possible.
