Abstract
Description
The twentieth century in Europe began with a mixture of optimism and apprehension. Europe had achieved remarkable heights in economic and political reach, and it seemed that centuries of warfare had settled into a lasting peace. However, unprecedented technologies of warfare, looming social unrest, and regional disparities in economic development threatened to disrupt European stability. We will trace the breakdown of European peace through two world wars, an economic collapse, and the division of the continent in the Cold War.
